
Any adult that is in the dugout or on the field during games is considered a coach - this includes all assistant coaches and dugout managers. All volunteer coaches must register for each division they will coach, pass a background check and complete all assigned trainings to be approved as a volunteer. Only approved volunteers may participate as coaches during games and practices. Divisions 3/4U through 7/8U are allowed 5 total coaches (typically the head coach, 3 assistants and a dugout manager) and divisions 9/10U and above are allowed 4 total coaches. Teams who wish to add additional volunteers may do so but must cover the cost of background checks and trainings for each additional coach. All coaches are encouraged to review all TCBSA Rules, Bylaws & Policies.
Coach Approval Requirements:
- Background Check: All volunteers must complete a background check administered by Ministry Safe every 2 years. Links to complete background checks will be emailed from [email protected].
- Ministry Safe Training: All volunteers much complete Ministry Safe’s virtual Sexual Abuse Awareness Training for Youth Sports. This training must be renewed every 2 years. Training links will be emailed from [email protected].
- TCBSA Classroom Training: TCBSA’s Classroom Training must be will be administered by TCBSA President Misty Hamilton. Coaches needing to attend training will be emailed additional information and training dates. This training must be completed every 3 years.
- NYSCA/NAYS Certification: All head coaches are required to have NYSCA/NAYS certification. Assistant coaches are encouraged to be certified as well, but not required. Click here to visit the NYSCA website.
